If you want to sell your Rolex, the two things that matter are the number and the certainty that you will actually get it. Ermitage Jewelers has bought pre-owned Rolex watches since 2000, and we buy them nationwide, by mail, every week. You send photos, we send a number, and if the watch is what the photos show, that is the number you get paid.
How to Sell My Rolex to Ermitage
- Send photos and the reference number through the form above. The dial, the caseback, the clasp and any box or papers are enough to start. If you know the serial number, include it.
- Get an offer. We reply within one business day with a firm offer based on what that reference is trading for right now, not a range designed to get the watch in the door.
- Ship it free and insured. We email a prepaid, fully insured FedEx label. You don't pay for shipping or insurance.
- Get paid. Our watchmaker checks the watch against your photos, and we pay by wire, check or PayPal. Most people who come to us saying "I want to sell my Rolex" have the money within a week of their first email.
If the inspection turns up something the photos didn't show, a replaced dial, a service part that isn't Rolex, water inside the case, we tell you exactly what we found and what it changes. You can take the revised number or decline, and we ship the watch back insured at our cost. Nobody is obligated to sell.
What We Pay for a Rolex
The question everyone asks first, so here are real ranges. Steel Submariners usually bring $8,000 to $11,000. Datejust references land anywhere from $3,500 to $7,000 depending on size, metal and dial. A steel GMT-Master II sells to us for $9,000 to $16,000, with the discontinued Pepsi at the top of that range. Gold Day-Dates sit between $15,000 and $30,000.
Those are offers to sellers, which is lower than the retail prices you see on dealer websites. The gap pays for inspection, service, warranty and the time a watch sits in inventory. If you want to see where retail sits for your model, our Rolex price guide has current numbers.
Three things move an offer more than anything else. An original, unpolished case is worth real money. Box and papers help, though less than most people think, and we explain the dollar difference in our guide to box and papers. And discontinued references, like the Pepsi or the Milgauss, often bring more than people expect.
Sell, Trade In or Consign
Selling outright is the fastest route: one offer, one payment, done. Trading in makes sense if you want a different watch from our inventory. We credit your Rolex at the same price we would pay in cash and apply it to the watch you want, so you are not losing value on both ends of the deal.
Consignment is the third option, and it suits uncommon or vintage pieces where the right buyer pays a premium but may take a while to appear. We list the watch, handle the buyers, and pay you when it sells. For a standard steel Submariner or Datejust, an outright sale usually makes more sense.
Where to Sell a Rolex
People searching for where to sell a Rolex near them usually end up at a local jeweler or a pawn shop, and that is where the lowest offers come from. A general jeweler doesn't resell Rolex every week, so they price in their own uncertainty. Selling by mail to a specialist sounds riskier than it is: the shipment is insured, tracked and signed for, and you are dealing with a business with a public record rather than a stranger from a marketplace.
Marketplaces like eBay or Chrono24 can get you closer to retail, but you take on fees, buyers who negotiate for weeks, and the risk of shipping a watch to someone you have never met. Auction houses make sense for rare vintage references with provenance, and rarely for a standard modern Rolex once their commission comes off.
Sell My Rolex Without Box and Papers?
We buy Rolex watches without papers all the time. Most watches from the 1980s and 1990s lost their documentation long ago, and the market prices that in. What we do need is the serial number, which tells us when the watch was made and lets us verify it. A watch with a removed or altered serial is one we won't buy. If you're not sure where to find the numbers, our guide to Rolex serial numbers shows where they are on every generation.
One piece of advice: don't send a watch for polishing or service just before you sell it. Polishing takes metal off the case and lowers the value, and a service rarely adds as much as it costs.
Why Sellers Choose Ermitage Jewelers
Ermitage Jewelers holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and averages 4.9 stars on Google and ResellerRatings. We have bought Rolex watches from estates, from collectors thinning their collections, and from people who just want the money for something else, and the process is the same for all of them: a clear number, insured shipping, and payment when we said it would arrive.
If you'd rather talk it through first, call 404-812-3435, Monday through Friday. Or read our longer guide on how to sell a Rolex before you decide where to send it.
Questions About Selling Your Rolex
It depends on the reference, condition and paperwork. As a guide, steel Submariners bring $8,000 to $11,000, Datejust models $3,500 to $7,000, steel GMT-Master II $9,000 to $16,000, and gold Day-Dates $15,000 to $30,000. Send photos for a firm offer on your watch.
Yes. Ermitage Jewelers sends a prepaid FedEx label with full insurance, tracking and signature confirmation. The watch is covered from the moment you drop it off until it reaches our watchmaker, and on the way back if you decide not to sell.
Yes. Papers add some value but are not required. We need the serial number to date and verify the watch, and the condition has to match the photos. Most vintage Rolex watches we buy have no original documentation.
Payment goes out once the watch is inspected and you accept the final number, by wire, check or PayPal. Most sellers have their money within a week of first contacting Ermitage Jewelers.
Only if the watch differs from the photos, such as a non-original part, water damage or a mechanical fault. We explain what we found and what it changes, and you can accept the revised offer or have the watch returned insured.
Yes. We credit your watch at the same price we would pay in cash and apply it toward any watch in our pre-owned Rolex inventory. If your watch is worth more than the one you choose, we pay you the difference.
