Omega Speedmaster
Omega introduced the first Speedmaster in 1957. The original Speedmaster featured a caliber 321 movement and the iconic three sub-dial design. Almost overnight, the watch became a success because of its accuracy, readability, and durability.
Before the Speedmaster series watches received their nickname as the Moonwatch, Speedmaster was known for its affiliation with professional racing. The tri sub-dial layout of the dial was inspired by the dashboards of Italian race cars, and accuracy of the watches chronograph and tachymeter complication made it a favorite among competitive drivers.
Omega Speedmaster is one of the rare watches that are synonymous with space exploration. The Speedmaster series watches have been used in all of the Gemini manned space missions in the mid 1960’s. The mission during which Speedmaster received its official nickname “the moonwatch” was the 1969 lunar landing.
